WHAT IS WATCH D.O.G.S.?

WATCH D.O.G.S.® (Dads of Great Students) is one of the nation’s largest and most respected school-based family and community engagement programs.

Since the program began in 1998, more than 6,800 schools nationwide have launched a WATCH D.O.G.S.® program.

The program has two primary goals:

🐾 Provide positive male role models for students
🐾 Provide an extra set of eyes and ears to enhance school safety, reduce bullying, and enrich the educational experience for students

WHAT DO WATCH D.O.G.S. DO?

At Bluebonnet Elementary, WATCH D.O.G.S. volunteer one day per semester and support our students and staff in many ways, including:

• Assisting with morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up
• Helping in classrooms throughout the day
• Supporting teachers with specific requests as needs arise
• Reading with students or working with small groups
• Assisting during specials (Art, Music, STEM, PE)
• Shelving books in the library
• Monitoring recess and lunch periods
• Building positive connections and showing students that father figures and mentors are valued and respected
• Participating in additional opportunities throughout the year as requested by Bluebonnet staff and administration

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Is WATCH D.O.G.S. related to PTA?
WATCH D.O.G.S.® is typically administered by the school campus; however, many schools partner with their PTA to support and grow the program. At Bluebonnet, it’s a partnership focused on creating the best experience possible for students.

Will I spend time with my child(ren)?
Yes! Mrs. Robb, our school counselor, schedules time during the day for you to spend with your child(ren).

Can I spend the entire day with my child(ren)?
The program is designed for D.O.G.S. to support the entire school community and volunteer across grade levels—not to spend the full day shadowing only their child.

What about lunch?
Lunch is available for purchase from the cafeteria if you choose not to bring your own. In most cases, you will be scheduled to eat with your child.
